RefVis offers continuous monitoring for manufacturing components and subsystems. By using size-hinting and color-coding the status of an entire plant can be seen in a quick glance at the screen. Once a possible problem is detected a dropdown menu allows for basic research into the problem without having to jump to other software or directly to a database of raw data.
Box sizes represent the relative importance of a piece of equipment based on an arbitrary factor such as fuel consumption. Color represents the status of a monitored variable for the equipment in relation to a target value. If the equipment is over the target value by a user-specified percentage then it will display as red. On target equipment will display as black, and below target equipment will display as green.
RefVis allows manufacturing plants a first line of knowledge and defense against inefficient use of equipment. More importantly, RefVis is easy to read. If a large box is red it is more important to correct than if a tiny box were red. It's that simple.
Color schemes, the monitored variable, target amounts, and history offset are all user-configurable.
Note: The screens here are using artificial sample data. In real life you would see far fewer red boxes (hopefully) and more black boxes.
